OFW’s or Filipino Overseas Workers are called the modern day hero in the Philippine society. They contributed a lot in saving the Philippine economy from sinking through their remittances that helped to strengthen the Philippine Peso against the US Dollars. Families of OFWs were saved from poverty and children were able to avail proper education which is a solid foundation for their future. Real-estate property buyers are almost OFWs as they have the purchasing power. Returning Filipinos to the Philippines who are taking holidays from their work also contributed in the tourism industry.
On the other hand, these OFWs has a lot of sacrifices working abroad. Aside from the loneliness to bear being away from their families, they have to deal with different people with different mentality in the countries where they are working. Not all OFWs has success stories, many of them have sad stories and some end up in tragedy. With all of the hardships and uncertainties, still many Filipinos are trying very hard to leave the Philippines to earn a living abroad.
